Projects

I am currently working on my doctoral thesis on the subject of Françis Poulenc’s third and final opera, La Voix Humaine.  The title of my thesis is ‘How Françis Poulenc expressed the Female Voice in La Voix Humaine.’

In February, I will perform mélodies by Daniel-Lesur at a conference in Paris.  In March, I will perform these same mélodies as well as a set of duets for baritone and soprano with Philippe Bolduc at another conference, this time in New York.

Esteban Larotta, lutist, and I are working together on Baroque English songs, and are in the process of forming a duo.

Teaching

I received my Bachelor of Music with a Major in Vocal Performance and a Concentration in Music In Education.
New England Conservatory’s progressive MIE programme, directed by Larry Scripp, includes history, philosophy, and psychology classes, and requires hands-on internships with experienced teachers. Through MIE, I helped organize audience-involving outreach performances and assisted in teaching keyboard lessons at elementary schools in the Boston area; I mentored high-school students who were leading From the Top, a classical music radio programme run by kids; I also spent a semester visiting an assisted living centre weekly, playing music and enjoying the company of the residents.

From 2002 to 2004, I was a Department Assistant to Paul Burdick, who is a professor of all undergraduate levels of Solfege at New England Conservatory. Solfege is a form of site-reading and musical analysis education, and as a D.A. I tutored many students in these skills. I also had the responsibility of marking their assignments.

In 2005, I taught singing lessons at Tom Lee Music Academy in Richmond, BC. While living in Amsterdam in 2005 and 2006, I ran my own voice studio. My teaching experience also includes tutoring Vancouver high-school students in preparation for their English and Literature SATs and provincial exams.

Writing

My CD reviews can be found in the archives of the Jewish Western Bulletin website,
www.jewishbulletin.ca. The November 19th article is called Expect the Unexpected, and the December 3rd article is called The Future of Jewish Music.

I have experience writing enticing artists' blurbs for a performing arts festival's sponsorship package; I have also edited festival programmes.

A few years ago, a group of friends of mine maintained an online magazine entitled Sneezing Fish in which I published a regular column that concerned music and day-to-day life.  I called my column "Keeping Time."
